The Canada 70 study explored a range of issues relating to Canada’s future as a nation. 4000 respondents gave their views to the publishers of The Telegram in Toronto through interviews and questionnaires, and this was combined with sociological research. Journalists used the data to sketch a unique profile of Canada across 6 volumes.

The books were brought together in a simple slipcase under the title The Challenge of Confrontation. Five of the books are themed around different areas of the country, while the 6th (Coast to Coast) presents a more unified view. Each of the 6 covers features a single cropped letter from the Canada 70 wordmark to mark their place in the sequence, with colour used to further differentiate them.
